This is kind of part 2 to the video I did on replacing a distributor on an Acura Integra. Whenever you replace a distributor on an engine like I did in that video you will also need to reset the ignition timing. I did my best to show you the operation in real time but the camera really didn’t like the strobing light so I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get you a better picture of that. The most important thing to remember with this is to read the procedure before you get started, if not you may perform it incorrectly and as a result set the timing incorrectly. So to adjust the timing, all i need to do is move the distributor back and forth?
also i loosened the distributor and it wouldn’t shift freely
eric i tried to short my ECU under the dash, but it wouldn’t work as the check engine light should have came on, I have a 96 Accord EX F22B1 and it mentions nothing on the seal under the hood!
do you short it out if you have a b18a1 swaped from integra into crx
Eric, I don’t understand. Why it has a distributor, if it has got an ECU. Cannot the ECU get the whole job done just using the crank and cam sensors ?.
you my friend is awesome for us broke ass trying to save money and DIY…kinda person
do you have a video on compression testing on b18 a,,???
hey eric would you be able to shoot this vid for a manual, 94-97 accord Vtech,Ex? as i found one mark on the crank but dont exactly know where to line it up at? also if you could show me where the computer is under the dash? thanks eric
I don’t know if you have the AA in the USA but my mates Distributer fail and they replaced it and reset the timing by moving the cam belt a few teeth! LOL They took out most of the valves! Atleast she didn’t have to foot the bill.
I cannot thank you enough for this video and this awesome explanation. A technician came to my home and adjusted my mom’s civic timing with a non-adjustable timing light a few weeks ago. I don’t think he did the right thing. I’m going to check this as soon as I can. Thanks Eric for all the help you bring to us.
Eric, what if the timing cover is warped some? How would that change things relative to using the method in this video to set/check the timing?
after installing my distributor the car ran grear but now it hasnt even been a full day and the check engine light is on and my integra is idling higher(1500-1700rpm-
lol if its not timed right ur engine gunna b running like shit
hey can u hel me? i have a 94 integra and when i put i t on park it starts reving by itself do u kno what it can b
Hi Eric the Car Guy. how about a 1984 Honda Civic does it have a computer. could I time the car by ear or do I have to buy a timing gun. If the timing is not right the water wont circle late right. let me know thanks
Thanks Eric The Car Guy. I don’t own a car, but this helped me in shop class!
I have just now realized that after 2 Honda accords that every time I set my timing that I have used the single mark instead of the 3 marks. The thing is my car ran but I did get a slight misfire and that issue left me stumped. The moral of my story READ and understand the information. Eric I’m trying to set my timing in the accord 4cyl. but I have turned my dist. all the way to advance and I still can’t reach the 3 marks. I’m think my mechanical timing could be off, what do you suggest.
Hey Eric!
Thanks ALOT for this! It’s a huge contribute to the people!
Now, I have a question if I may, I own a ’92 civic with a D16A7.
Recently My car suddenly died on me, after I parked it on the same day.
After many checks, I have come to know that my coil is faulty.
Now I have a new dizzy and I want to make this adjustment, but I don’t know how these marks look like on this engine, and where they are, because the engine is different a bit.
can you help me out with this please?
Thanks, Denis.
Nice one piece headlights man!
Is the timing mark always in the same place on older Honda’s? If so, what is the mark on the flywheel for? My 93 Accord has marks there and I thought those were for setting up the timing.
Lol
HELLO ALL I HAVE A LIL PROB MY BUDDY HAS A 94 INTEGRA WHILE HE WAS DRIVIING THE DISTRUBITOR FELL OFF THE CAR WONT START UNLESS I MOVE THE DIST OFF THE BOLT HOLES THEN IT WILL START HOW DO I TIME IT RIGHT OR WHAT DO I DO THANKS AND BE SAFE
Hey Eric, big fan! I have a 74 Chevy Nova with a 250 straight six. I changed out the vacume advance and now the car barely runs. Can I just mess with the timming until it sounds right or do I have to use a timing light? Thanks.
Eric you are the best teacher I’ve had in my life, if it weren’t for you i’d be flipping burgers instead of working as a mechanic.
Hey Eric, nice video! I have a 1998 nissan frontier 4 cyl, I pulled out the oil pump and the distributor after I put it back together and test drive the truck and it feels the rpm are too high! Do I need to adjust the distributor co’z I dont have the timing light?
